Dellinger loses Vienna council seat
Vienna Town Councilman Dellinger, who voiced opposition to trails leading to Tysons, saying that while providing trails will allow residents to walk to the future Metro stations, "unfortunately what it's going to do is bring the other undesirables into our neighborhood" (see the earlier FABB blog post), lost to Howard Springsteen by 2 votes in the recent election. It's another example of the old dictum, "Every vote counts".Springsteen is a bicyclist as is the other newly elected Council representative Laurie DiRocco. Incumbent Councilman George Lovelace voiced his strong support for improved bike/walk access in Vienna at a recent candidate forum. With the proposal to form a new Vienna bicycle advisory committee, and the newly elected council, we're optimistic that bicycle facilities will improve in Vienna in the near future.

Vienna councilman Dellinger afraid of trail users
Most people want to be able to bike and walk to Tysons. Since the only parking available at the four Tysons Metro stations is for bicycles, driving there is not an option. One way to ensure that gridlock in Northern Virginia continues is to propagate the current conditions that prevent people from easily walking and biking between neighborhoods.
Why not attend the candidate forum next Wed., April 29, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center and ask Councilman Dellinger why he's so afraid of people who want to use trails to get around Northern Virginia. You could also ask him how to identify so-called undesirables. How many of the trail users who pass through Vienna every day on the W&OD Trail are undesirables?
